But at times, the season of happiness—monsoon—also brings along some worries for exclusive cloth diapering parents.

Cloth diapers and other clothing may seem to take an unending amount of time to dry because of the constant moisture during monsoon season. Though it may seem complicated, using baby cloth diapers during the rainy season is not as difficult as it seems. Here are some pointers for keeping your SuperBottoms reusable cloth diapers looking brand new throughout the monsoon season: cleaning and maintenance!

Team SuperBottoms has compiled this list of tips and suggestions based on advice given by exclusive cloth diapering parents on our Facebook community – Parents Tribe by SuperBottoms. We hope these tips will help you navigate cloth diapering, maintaining reusable diapers & prolonging the life of your cloth diapers.

10 Tips for Cloth Diapering During Monsoon Season

Tip No. 1 – Wash Frequently

During the monsoon season or in humid conditions, frequent washing of cloth diapers is essential to prevent mold or mildew growth. Moisture can easily get trapped in the fabric, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew to thrive. By washing cloth diapers more frequently, you can remove moisture and bacteria, ensuring the diapers stay fresh, clean, and free from unpleasant odours. This practice helps maintain the hygiene of the cloth diapers and prolongs their lifespan for continued use.

Tip No. 2 – Have a Decent Stash

Multi-size Waterproof Outers come with a 100% organic cotton Dry Feel Regular Pad, which is excellent for day and night. Depending upon your child's age and weight, you can choose which SuperBottoms diaper you want to go with – Newborn Cloth Diaper or Freesize Cloth Diaper.

Tip No. 3 – Use Liners

Diaper liners are a helpful strategy to manage moisture and prevent leaks, particularly in heavy rains or humid conditions. These liners act as a barrier between the baby's skin and the absorbent cloth diaper, helping to wick away moisture and keep the skin dry. Controlling the humidity within the liner reduces the chances of leaks and provides additional protection for the cloth diaper. Diaper liners are handy during the monsoon season when there is increased humidity and the risk of prolonged dampness, making them a practical solution to maintain comfort and dryness for your baby.

Tip No. 4 – Opt For Indoor Drying

There will be days during the monsoon season when you will not see sunlight for days altogether. When it rains, you can opt to dry your cloth diapers indoors near the window or under the fan.

Tip No. 5 – Use Dehumidifier

Using a dehumidifier in the drying area can help reduce excess moisture in the air, which is beneficial for faster drying of cloth diapers during the monsoon season. By lowering the humidity levels, the dehumidifier creates a more conducive environment for drying, preventing dampness and mildew growth while ensuring that the cloth diapers dry efficiently and thoroughly.

Tip No. 6 – Give Proper Sunlight Exposure

Sunlight exposure is a natural and effective way to freshen and sanitize cloth diapers during the monsoon season. By taking advantage of sunny intervals, you can air out the diapers outdoors, allowing the UV rays to help eliminate bacteria and odours while naturally bleaching and fading stains. Sunlight not only aids in drying the diapers efficiently but also helps maintain their freshness and cleanliness, making it a simple yet powerful method to keep cloth diapers in optimal condition.

Tip No. 7 – Maintain Proper Skincare

Skincare is a relatively easy task when you are using cloth diapers. First, wipe the baby's bottom with a moist cloth/ Organic cloth wet wipes and pat dry. Then, apply coconut oil before putting on a fresh diaper. There is absolutely no need to use rash creams or talcum powder. Coconut oil is the best moisturizer for babies. Finally, invest in the best reusable diapers in India, SuperBottoms Diapers, so that you do not have to worry about the skincare and rashes for your baby constantly; because of the quality of cloth diapers SuperBottoms offers, there is no compromise.

Tip No. 8 – Proper Storage

Proper storage of cloth diapers is crucial to prevent musty odours and mold growth, especially during the monsoon season. It is essential to ensure that the cloth diapers are completely dry before storing them to avoid trapping moisture, which can lead to unpleasant odours and mold formation. By allowing the diapers to air dry thoroughly before storage, you can maintain their freshness, hygiene, and longevity, ensuring they are ready for reuse without any issues of dampness or mildew.

Tip No. 9 – Avoid Fabric Softeners

Avoiding fabric softeners is essential when caring for cloth diapers, as these products can negatively impact their absorbency. Fabric softeners leave a residue on the fabric that can create a barrier, reducing the diapers' ability to absorb moisture effectively. By refraining from fabric softeners, you can maintain the optimal performance of your cloth diapers, ensuring that they remain absorbent and functional for your baby's needs. Opting for cloth diaper-safe detergents without fabric softeners will help preserve the diapers' absorbency and overall performance, keeping them in top condition for more extended use.

Tip No. 10 – Check For Moisture & Mildew Regularly

Regularly checking cloth diapers for signs of mildew or mold is essential to ensure proper hygiene and prevent potential health risks. Mold and mildew can thrive in damp or humid conditions, so inspecting the diapers for any black or green spots, musty odours, or visible signs of mold growth is essential. Promptly addressing any mildew or mold issues by washing the affected diapers with hot water, vinegar, or a mild bleach solution can help eradicate the problem and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the cloth diapers for your baby's use. By promptly addressing mildew, you can ensure your cloth diapers remain fresh, odour-free, and free from harmful mold contaminants.

Hey Mamata,
We do understand your worry ,being made of highly absorbing material the dry feel langots might take some extra time to dry in certain seasons.

However a good extra spin with line drying under the fan would help dry them super quick.

How to dry superbottom dry feel langots.because it takes two to three days to get dried which is so inconvenient.

Hi Fathima ,
The UNO diaper when used in the daytime with the dry feel magic main pad would help keep the baby dry and comfortable for 3-4 hours depending upon baby’s pee pattern.
We do have babies who might used them for longer or shorter hours but the whole absorbency of the diaper is very much dependent on the baby’s pee pattern.
